Obituary for Dwight Dale Greene

Dwight Dale Greene, 62, of Elizabethtown, passed away unexpectedly, on Monday, February 6, 2017.

Dale was born June 15, 1954, in Lancaster to the late D. Paul and Margaret (Garner) Greene.

He lived in Elizabethtown most of his life, graduating from Elizabethtown Area High School in 1972 and attending Elizabethtown College.

Dale was employed at Armstrong Ceiling Plant in Marietta 1973-1994; Sears 1994-2002; Wyeth Laboratories in 2002 and Graham Packaging in York from 2003 to present.

He enjoyed watching hockey, especially the Hershey Bears and the Philadelphia Flyers, Penn State football, and was an avid model rocket enthusiast. He joined the National Association of Rocketry (NAR) in the 1960's, was a charter member of the Southern Pennsylvania Area Association of Rocketry #503 ( SPAAR) founded in 1988, also serving as president for over 15 years (only recently stepping down). He traveled across the country to seminars and competitions, becoming a nationally recognized name. He was an advocate of Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) and enjoyed mentoring local high school clubs, Boy Scouts, and science clubs; including a Penn Manor team which won a TARC National competition 5 years ago and went on to win the International competition.

He was known as quiet and patient but with a wry, skewed sense of humor that friends and family enjoyed.

Dale is survived by a sister, Carol, wife of Dennis Reitz of Herndon, 3 brothers, Byron Greene of Aurora, CO, Kevin, husband of Kelly Greene, Tim Greene, both of Elizabethtown; 2 nephews, Richard, husband of Sherry Greene of Aberdeen, MD, Isaac, husband of Kelly Greene, and a niece, Sarah, wife of Eric Miller, both of Elizabethtown.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017, at 1:30 PM at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 North Ninth Street, Akron. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in Dale's memory may be made to Southern Pennsylvania Area Association of Rocketry #503(SPAAR), c/o Larry Gerlach, 25 Brusen Drive, Lititz, PA 17543-8645.
