Obituary for Harry W. Hertzler

Harry W. Hertzler, born April 4, 1917, to the late Henry P. and Anna (Shenk) Hertzler, passed away peacefully from this life on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the age of 100 years, 2 months and 10 days at Lincoln Christian Home where he resided for 2 ½ years. He was a member of Bethel Mennonite Church, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA, where he had lived for 13 years with his wife Alma J. ( Martin) (Swartzendruber) Hertzler. He was ordained to the ministry at Rock Mennonite Church, Elverson, PA in 1958, and endeavored to serve faithfully in many church, school, and mission capacities.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 6 sons, J. David, husband of Ilva of Milford, DE, Joseph, husband of Norma of Cumberland, VA, John Paul of Fair Play, SC, Daniel, husband of Ruth of Chewelah, WA, Michael, husband of Kay of Meadville, PA, Henry, husband of Gwen of Tahlequah, OK; a daughter, Lois Ann, wife of Phillip Danner of Hanover, PA; 2 step-daughters, Ruth (Swartzendruber), wife of Paul Hollingshead of Reinholds, PA, Rosa Swartzendruber of Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA; a son-in-law, Marvin, husband of Jean Rohrer of Browerville, MN; a brother-in-law, Johnny Wenger of Goshen, IN; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters; his first wife, Edna W. (Wenger) Hertzler; a daughter, Mary June (Hertzler) Rohrer and a daughter-in-law, Alma (Yoder) Hertzler.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 18, 2017, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Grace Mennonite Fellowship, 219 Conestoga Creek Road, Ephrata, PA 17522. An additional viewing will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 12:00 to 1:30 PM at the Salisbury Mennonite Church, 14592 Pepperbox Road, Delmar, DE, followed by funeral services at 1:30 PM with the Bethel Church Ministry officiating. Interment will take place in the Salisbury Mennonite Cemetery.
