Obituary for John H. Horning

John H.  Horning
John H. Horning, 84, of Brickerville, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in E. Cocalico Twp. to the late John M. and Lena (Hurst) Horning and was the husband of the late Helen A. (Long) Horning who passed away in 2002.

He attended Word of Life Mennonite Fellowship, Lititz.

John was a self-employed mason and also worked for Clayton Gerlach and later did carpentry work. He enjoyed hunting, four-wheeling, deep sea fishing and going to baseball games.

John is survived by 2 sons, John Horning, Jr. of Manheim, Tom Horning of Denver; 3 daughters, Carol Brenneman of Brickerville, Jewel Horning of Brickerville, Becky Grove of Ephrata; 5 grandchildren, Bill Brenneman, Jr., Melissa Brenneman Auker, Kelly Brenneman, Derek Horning, Dwight Horning; 8 great-grandchildren and 4 sisters, Laura, Verna, Minerva, Lena.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Anna and Esther.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Hammer Creek Mennonite Church, 590 Hammer Creek Road, Lititz. An additional viewing will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017, at the church, from 9 to 10 AM followed by funeral services at 10 AM. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.
