Alexander Masluk, 87, of Akron, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, July 14, 2017.

Born in Coatesville, Chester County, he was the son of the late Elious and Pauline (Wokoransky) Masluk and devoted husband of the late Helen (Onuskonich) Masluk with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Alexander was a Naval Veteran who served with distinction for 25 years as a Philadelphia Police Officer. He was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish where he was a loyal supporter of the Benevolent Society and a Third Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 4191. Alexander enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards and watching cowboy movies. He was happiest working on projects, especially birdhouses, in his woodshop.

He is survived by 3 sons, Rev. Alexander Masluk of Philadelphia, John R., husband of Christine (Campbell) Masluk of Philadelphia, Michael, husband of Patricia (Lohr) Masluk of Philadelphia; 2 daughters, Hope, wife of Michael Schmids of Reinholds and Dawn, wife of Daniel McCormac of Akron; 9 grandchildren, John (Lauren) Masluk, Sarah (Jay) Herrmann, Patrick Masluk, Nathan Schmids, Olivia Schmids, Matthew (Brittany) McCormac, Erin McCormac, Allie McCormac and William McCormac. He was also blessed with 5 great-grandchildren: Wesley, Alexi, Mila, Joshua and Elowen.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Michael Masluk.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, from 6 to 8 pm at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. 9th St., Akron. An additional visitation will be held on Thursday, July 20, from 9 to 10 am, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 320 Church Avenue, Ephrata, with Rev. Alexander Masluk as Celebrant. Final Commendation and Farewell will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
