Obituary for Arthur W. Gehman

Arthur W. "Ike" Gehman, 89, of Denver, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

He was born in Adamstown to the late Solomon and Bessie (Sensenig) Gehman and was the husband of the late Dawn E. (Witwer) Gehman who passed away October 1, 2013.

He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Swartzville, Adamstown V.F.W. Post 8795, Adamstown Rod and Gun Club, and Ephrata Bowman's Association. He enjoyed archery hunting, and was a follower of Oral Roberts, Billy Graham, and Robert Schuller Ministries.

Ike was a 1945 graduate of Shillington H.S. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He worked as a crane operator for Carpenter Steel (Car Tech) in Reading.

Ike is survived by a son, Barry L. Gehman of Denver; a granddaughter, Kate, wife of Michael Maxwell, a grandson, Mike Gehman, husband of Kara (Chrisianthon); 3 great-grandchildren, Owen and Connor Maxwell, and Jaxon Gehman; a daughter-in-law, Pam Hoover Gehman; and a close family friend, Jeanie Johnson.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Gehman, and 3 sisters, Berniece Fry, Dottie Gehman, and Mary Gehman.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017, from 10 to 11 am at the Peace United Church of Christ, 37 E. Swartzville Rd., Denver. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am, with Pastor William E. Hoch officiating. Interment will take place in the Fairview Cemetery.
