Obituary for Mervin M Newcomer

Mervin M  Newcomer
Mervin M. Newcomer, 82, of Ephrata, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017, at Ephrata Manor.

He was born in Lexington to the late Ralph D. and Margaret (Maxsein) Newcomer and was the husband of Shirlan B. (Bouder) Newcomer with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

Mervin was a member of Zion's Reformed UCC. He retired in 1999 from Ephrata Manufacturing as a foundry worker. Mervin was a former Boy Scout leader, he enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, painting, crafts, and biking.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Randy E., husband of Jolene (Griffith) Newcomer of Ephrata; two daughters, Susan L., wife of David Hornberger of Akron, Karen L., wife of Scott Aldridge of Greenbackville, VA; three grandsons, Benjamin Newcomer, companion of Erica Harmon and Bryan, husband of Tanya Hornberger, Steven Aldridge; a great-grandson, Blake Hornberger; a sister, Harriet Garber of Ephrata.

In addition to his parents, Mervin was preceded in death by his siblings, Margareta (Tina), his twin brother, Melvin, Geraldine, Ralph Jr. and Dorothy.

A visitation will take place on Monday, November 27, 2017, from 2 to 3 PM, at Zion's Reformed UCC, 1356 Apple St., Ephrata, followed by a memorial service at 3 PM, with Pastor Robert Peiffer officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in Mervin's memory may be made to American Cancer Society-Lanc. Co. Unit, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.
