Obituary for Kenneth Ray Weaver

Kenneth Ray Weaver, 76, of Akron, went to meet his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.

He was born October 6, 1941 in Martindale, PA to the late Isaac B. and Anna (Zoll) Weaver. He married Esther L. (Hess) Weaver September 22, 1962. They were married for over 55 years..

He was a member of Calvary Church, Landis Valley Road, Lancaster. After being on 2 mission trips to Russia, he was drawn to a church with a focus on missions.

Ken was a bookkeeper for Hess Eggs for 37 years, Weaver Nut Company for 7 years and Martin's Chair, in New Holland, for 14 years. He graduated from Garden Spot High School, Class of 1959. One of his highlights was receiving a diploma from the Dale Carnegie Course. He grew up with baseball, playing in many church leagues and enjoyed watching college and NFL football. Ken and Esther enjoyed traveling, in addition to Russia, they visited Hawaii twice, the Bahamas 3 times, Jamaica twice, Cancun, St. Thomas and several US states. He also enjoyed mapping out and organizing numerous bus trips for the Ephrata Mennonite Church. Ken was an avid reader of western and suspense novels.

Ken had that award winning smile, especially for his grandchildren. They were a special part of his life.

In addition to his wife, Ken is survived by 3 children, K. Scott Weaver at home, Christina, wife of Scott Wanner of Akron, Suzanne, wife of Jim Steely of New Cumberland; a daughter-in-law, Cyndi Weaver of Narvon; 10 grandchildren, Michael Foltz, Sheena Kloppenberg, Christie, Nicole and Ben Weaver, Derek, Zachary, Rebecca and Joshua Wanner, James Steely; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Robert I., husband of Linda L. Weaver of East Earl, Jay R., husband of Linda S. Weaver of Denver; a brother-in-law, J. Clair High of Stevens.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dean Weaver; a grandson, Nathan Nixdorf; a brother, Larry L. Weaver and 2 sisters, June Weaver and Shirley High.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2017, from 5 to 8 PM, at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 530 Walnut Street, Denver. An additional viewing will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017, at the Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, from 10 to 11 AM, followed by funeral services at 11 AM, with Pastor Woody Woodcock officiating. Interment will take place in the Metzler Mennonite Cemetery.
