Obituary for Samuel W. Martin Jr.

Samuel W. Martin, age 94 of Ephrata, fulfilled the desire of his heart as he passed from this life to his heavenly home on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at Fairmount Homes following a short illness.

He was born in Voganville on January 22, 1924, to the late Samuel S. and Annie (Wenger) Martin and was the husband of the late Floy Elaine (Kreider) Martin who passed away in 2001.

He was a charter member of the Cocalico Church of the Brethren since 1959, where he served as a life deacon and a Sunday School teacher.

Samuel was self-employed, first as a dairy farmer in Clay Township and later as a carpenter/contractor/cabinet maker. He was a charter member of the Ephrata Area Young Farmers and actively supported Teen Haven and Christian Aid Ministries. He enjoyed spending time in his wood shop building furniture and turning wood. He also loved visiting with family and friends.

Samuel is survived by 4 children, Carol Anne, wife of James Loewer of Eunice, LA, Rev. Glenn R., husband of Joann (Ebersole) Martin of Lititz, Nancy L., wife of Melvin Landis of Lititz, Curtis L., husband of Dolly (Kilheffer) Martin of Palmyra. He was greatly appreciated and loved by his 16 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Doris (Kreider) Horst of Ephrata.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eli and infant brother, Harvey Martin and 4 sisters, Elizabeth Martin, Magdelena, Anna and Clara Martin.

A viewing will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018, from 6 to 8 PM at the Middle Creek Church of the Brethren, 351 Middle Creek Church Road, Lititz. An additional viewing will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 9 to 10 AM at the church followed by funeral services at 10 AM at with Bros.. Kenneth Leininger, Kevin Auker and Dale Bollinger officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.
