Obituary for Kathryn Martin (Hurst)

Kathryn (Hurst) Martin, 90, of Ephrata, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Fairmount Homes.

She was born in East Earl to the late David and Lena (Hurst) Newswanger and was the wife of the late James D. Hurst who passed away in 1965 and the late John B. Martin who passed away in 2006.

Kathryn was a member of the Springville Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.

She is survived by her children, David E., husband of Mary Kathryn (Martin) Hurst of Lewisburg, James D., husband of Mary (Hoover) Hurst of Myerstown, Leon N., husband of Nancy (Hertzog) Hurst of Ephrata, LeRoy N., husband of Patricia (Doutrich) Hurst of Stevens, Marvin N., husband of Kim (Douglas) Hurst of Volcano, HI, Irene N., wife of Lloyd Burkholder of Ephrata, Elsie N., wife of Melvin Musser of Loganton, Ernest N., husband of Mary (Hoover) Hurst of Myerstown, Edwin N., husband of Theresa (Hinkle) Hurst of Lititz; step children, Edna G., wife of Landis Weaver of Farmersville, Mary Jane, wife of Lloyd Nolt of Lititz, Earl G., husband of Grace (Martin) Martin of Ephrata, Louella G., wife of Mark Good of Ohio, Vera Mae, wife of Carl Zimmerman of Lebanon, Ellen G., wife of James Kirby of OR; 33 grandchildren; 72 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; 25 step grandchildren; 140 great step grandchildren; 20 great-great step grandchildren; a sister, Mary Nolt of Lincoln; a step sister, Mrs. David Weaver of East Earl.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sons, Lloyd N. Hurst and Luke N. Hurst; 2 brothers, John Jacob Newswanger, Raymond Newswanger; a sister, Margaret Zimmerman.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 10, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm, at the Midway Mennonite Reception Center, 210 E. Lexington Rd., Lititz. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 11, at 9:30 am, at the Springville Mennonite Church, 580 Springville Rd., Ephrata, with Bishop Lester. B. Martin officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.
