Obituary for Charles Albert Eckman

Charles Albert Eckman
Charles Albert Eckman, 83, of Parrish, Florida, died of natural causes on January 10, 2018 with loved ones by his side. Known to his friends and family as “Charlie”, he was born September 17, 1934 in Quarryville, PA, son of the late Raymond and Bessie Mae (Deaver) Eckman. Charlie and his wife, Jane (Miesse) Eckman, celebrated 35 years of marriage June 24, 2017.
After graduating from McCaskey high school, Charlie served in the Unites States Marine Corp. Following his service to our country, he owned and operated “The Dell”, a small soda and sandwich shop formerly on the corner of Chestnut Street and College Avenue once popular among the staff and students of St. Joseph’s Hospital and FandM College. Later, Charlie worked in the automobile sales and leasing industry eventually rising to Vice President of Sales with Town and Country Leasing. He retired in 2006 to travel and spend more time with his wife and grandchildren. During retirement, he fulfilled two life-long goals: first, to drive the ALCAN Highway and second, to travel above the Arctic Circle. Charlie was well known for his honorable approach to business, friendly personality, sense of humor, and love for his children, grandchildren and dogs.
In addition to his wife Jane, Charlie is survived by his three sons, Stuart Lee of Ephrata, PA; Chuck and his wife Donna of Hampton, VA; and Eric and his wife Fumiko of Graham, WA; daughter Farrah (Miesse) Risser and her husband Michael of Parrish, FL; seven grandchildren Megan, Erika, Euki, Riki, Kaiden, Braylen and Alannah; and five great-grandchildren, Jada, Olivia, Kenzie, Wyatt, and William.
In addition to his father and mother, Charlie was preceded in death by his brothers, Jay “June” of Baltimore, MD; Clair and his wife Sally of Lancaster, PA; sister, Hilda “Ginny” Mae Wise; and first wife, Anna (Shireman).
Charlie was a long time resident of Clay Township and a member of the Bethany United Church of Christ in Ephrata. Memorial services will be held at the Bethany United Church of Christ, 140 E. Main Street, Ephrata on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 10:30 AM. Interment will be held at Bethany UCC Cemetery followed by a social gathering of friends and family in the church sanctuary.
